In Full Bloom -
Big Hit

You'd be forgicen for not recognising Orlando Bloom f you saw him in the street. Sure, you'd think he was good looking... but this guy has short, dark hair! That's right, the long blond hair Orlando has in The Lord of the Rings was a wig, but we reckon he's even hotter with his buzz cut...

BH: You've had a lot of different hairdos like the long blond locks in LOTR an then we've seen you with that mohawk in some photos. What's the deal?

OB: It raised my hairline. I got to transform compleately in make-up and costume and become Legolas. Then at night, I got to go home with my mohawk. It was great!

BH: What was the hardest thing about playing Legolas?

OB: Legolas's moves are smooth and elegant, like a cat. You know how cats can jump and land steadily on their paws? That's what i'm trying to do. There's a strength in that, but it's very balletic. It's also bloody hard to do without falling over!

BH: Did you hesitate in taking the role?

OB: For a young actor like me to have the opportunity to have 18 months in front of a camera working with Peter Jackson and the kind of calibre of cast and crew was just unheard of. There was never any question of would I do it? There was just where do I sign for it?! It was just bonkers. It was like winning the lottery-or as close as it gets. It was like, "Here, have a life!" BH: Is it true that you wen surfing, fishing and on road trips togeather with the hobbits in your free time?

OB: Yes. I simss it madly. We sampled everything the country has to offer. The weirdest things to throw yourself off are to be found in New Zealand.

BH: You really liked New Zealand alot then?

OB: It was home, I have a great warm feeling about New Zealand and I'm really tempted to buy some land therem particularly with everything going on in the world at the moment, because New Zealand feels like a really safe place to be right now.

BH: What do you think about people recognising you now?

OB: I am slightly amazed people are interested in me. But I love talking about it!

BH: You once had a serious accident, right?

OB: I broke my back. I fell out of a window...some friends had a roof terrace on the landing below their apartment, and I fell three floors. I was told I might not walk again. So, for about four days, I was contemplating that as a serious part of reality. Then they operated, and I walked out of the hospital in about 12 days. I've always been spontaneity-but it was a big wake up call. I was almost paralysed.

BH: You also play a character with a broken back in Black Hawk Down.

OB: I had mentioned I had done that when I was up for the part. Who knows why one actor gets a job and another doesn't? I think it was just good timing that I happened to be there and i had had that experience. I mean, I was lucky.
